TSAA-SF Annual Conference 2022 - Speaker Biographies


Craig Johnson, CFA, CMT




Bio: Craig Johnson is a managing director and chief market technician at Piper Sandler, directing the technical research group. Johnson joined Piper Sandler in 1995 as an analyst in the firm’s private client research. He frequently shares his technical views on CNBC and other major financial news networks, while his research is often quoted in the financial press.


Craig earned a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in finance, marketing, insurance, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Drake University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst™ (CFA) and Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designations and is an active member of the Twin Cities Society of Securities Analysts and co-chapter chair of the Minnesota Chapter Market Technician Association. Craig is a Past President of the CMT Association and currently leads the Technical Analysis Education Foundation (TAEF).

Jeffrey Kennedy, MSTA, CFTe, CMT, CEWA-M




Bio: Jeffrey Kennedy draws on more than 30 years of experience as an analyst, teacher and trader. He was an adjunct instructor for five years in the Quantitative and Computational Finance program at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he taught technical analysis. He also co-authored the 2013 book Visual Guide to Elliott Wave Trading. Jeffrey provides video forecasts and analysis for EWI's Commodity Junctures Service on a Daily and Monthly basis. He also produces video lessons for EWI's popular Trader's Classroom, an educational service that shows subscribers how to trade with wave analysis and supporting technical methods, as well as the newly launched Crypto Trader's Classroom.

David Lundgren, CMT, CFA



Bio: David is a 30-year investment industry veteran, with a focus on technical analysis strategies, particularly momentum and trend following. He is the former Director of Technical Research at Wellington Management, where he was also a portfolio manager with extensive experience managing global long-only and US long-short portfolios. David also held senior analyst positions at Fidelity & Thomson Financial. In addition, he has started several research and investment firms, including hedge fund Lyceum Capital, Breakaway Research, and most recently MOTR Capital Management & Research, Inc.


David taught a graduate level Technical Analysis course at Brandeis International Business School, in Waltham, MA, where he received the 2015 Excellence in Teaching Award in his first year. He is a Chartered Market Technician (CMT) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) dual charter holder, and a member of the CMT Association’s board of directors. He launched and Co-Hosts “Fill the Gap”, CMT Association’s official podcast. David is a graduate of Babson College with a finance and investments dual major.

John Kolovos, CMT, CFA




Bio: John Kolovos is Head of Technical Strategy at Macro Risk Advisors, an independent, FINRA registered broker-dealer specializing in analyzing global market risk and executing transactions on behalf of institutional investors. In this role, he is responsible for delivering high conviction investment insights, identifying tactical trading opportunities, and analyzing cross-asset relationships between stocks, commodities, currencies, and interest rates from across the globe. John has been one of Wall Street’s most sought-after macro-based analysts over the last 20 years, working alongside some of the industry’s most legendary investors.


Prior to joining MRA, John spent the early part of his career at Lehman Brothers and then ISI Group, where he regularly published technical and macro strategy reports to institutional investors in a focused and unbiased manner. Later, he moved to Boston joining Fidelity Investments as vice president and senior global technical strategist, working side by side with domestic and international portfolio managers.


John also is an adjunct professor at Brandeis University where he teaches a graduate-level course on Technical Analysis and is very active in the technical analysis community by serving on the executive committee as Secretary for the CMT Association as well sitting on the Governance and Finance committees. John is a member of the CFA Society of Boston, and dual CFA and CMT Charterholder, and has been frequently quoted in the financial press. An avid guitar player and golfer, he is best known for being an integral part of the investment process for those around him by integrating his knowledge and years of experience with systematic processes based on trend, momentum, and relative strength.

John Bollinger, CMT, CFA

Creator of Bollinger Bands




Bio: John Bollinger is the president and founder of Bollinger Capital Management, Inc., an investment management company that provides technically-driven money management services and develops proprietary research for institutions and individuals. Investors may know him from his many years of market analysis and commentary on television -- first on the Financial News Network, where he was the Chief Market Analyst -- and subsequently on CNBC.


John is probably best known for his Bollinger Bands, which he developed in the early 1980s. Traders and investors worldwide use Bollinger Bands to assess expected price action in the financial markets, and the bands are featured on most financial charting software and websites. His book Bollinger on Bollinger Bands was published by McGraw-Hill in 2001 and has been translated into twelve languages.


He is an active member of the financial community and a frequent lecturer at national and international investment seminars. John's articles have appeared in Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities, Active Trader, and the CMT Association Newsletter. He is a former board member of the CMT Association, the Technical Analysis Educational Foundation and the International Federation of Technical Analysts.


John is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Chartered Market Technician (CMT). He is the recipient of the TSAA's Lifetime Award for Outstanding Achievement in Technical Analysis, the 2005 CMT Association Annual Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Field of Technical Analysis, and the IFTA 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Steve Strazza, CPA





Bio: Steve Strazza brings a unique perspective to the world of Technical Analysis due to his diverse background. He found an affinity for financial markets during his first job out of college as a big-4 CPA auditing some of Wall Street’s largest broker-dealers, such as Interactive Brokers and Morgan Stanley. Steve then worked in the Asset Management industry in a variety of roles including Controller for a private equity start-up, Fund Accountant at two large hedge funds, and most notably as a personal Accountant for Steve Cohen at SAC Capital and Point72.


Steve has spent recent years writing as an Independent Research Analyst while working on a variety of Fintech projects for companies such as the TradeXchange and Deloitte & Touche. He also continues to practice part-time at his father’s CPA firm. Naturally, Steve began his research career using the financial statement analysis skills he gained as an accountant. After learning the flaws of fundamental analysis first-hand through his research career as well as his experience auditing public companies, he transitioned his investing style to focus primarily on price action.


Steve holds an MBA from Fairfield University and is currently pursuing his CMT designation as a level 3 candidate.
